Black youngster is murdered by axe gang in 'vicious' race attack

A promising black A-level student with dreams of becoming a lawyer was murdered with an axe in a "vicious" racial attack in Liverpool yesterday.

Anthony Walker, 18, died from a deep head wound in hospital, the victim of an unprovoked attack by a gang of men, minutes after he had been subjected to a "torrent of racial abuse", police said.

Mr Walker, of Huyton, Liverpool, was waiting at a bus stop with his white girlfriend and a cousin when they were abused by a hooded man outside a nearby pub.

The three walked off, but were followed into a park, where Mr Walker was killed by a single blow of the axe.
