Chicago’s ‘rat hole’ no more after city removes damaged pavement

Chicago's so-called “rat hole” is no more after city officials determined the section of pavement bearing the imprint of an animal was damaged.

The impression resembling the outline of a rat - claws, tail and all - became an unlikely tourist attraction and a couple even held a wedding ceremony in front of it.

Residents who live near the hole said it has been there for years and has only recently gained widespread notoriety.

A spokesperson for the Chicago Department of Transportation says the square section of sidewalk with the impression was placed in temporary storage.
